Le Marais – Day 2?

2022 Babymoon in Paris

Merry Christmas!

We had a much needed slow start to the day. I awoke at 4am, then was able to get myself back to sleep, until 11:30. After having basically not slept at all, getting 13 hours of sleep in one night felt fair.

First thing in the morning was taking a Covid test that we declared we would do “on our honor.” After yet another blessed negative test, I went downstairs to the nearby Boulangerie Flamel to pick up a quick breakfast.

My french is… not great. I can probably make out a sentence or two if I have a minute to rehearse it in my head. “Comment s’appelle ces petites choses”…. that’s probably pretty close to “What do you call these small things”. Attempting to enter the building was an embarrassing failure as I pulled the door instead of pushed… several times… The employee pantomiming how to push a door while she watched my struggle.

I attempted to order in french. I learned that the aforementioned small things, though I can’t seem to confirm, were called “fou” or something like it. They were about the size of a silver dollar, so clearly, I had to get 12 of them. 4 each of Salmon, Chicken, and Mozzarella. I also got a small pistachio cake… because… it’s Christmas!

After breakfast, we did a bit of grocery shopping at the nearby Supermarche G20 to get enough food for dinner and tomorrow’s breakfast.

By 2:00pm, we made it to Le Centre Pompidou. We went through the main galleries which focused on many different modern styles of art, to which I have neither the qualifications or the know-how to talk about. I can name-drop cubism, dadaism, and de stijl, but that’s about it.

When the museum was about to close, we made our way home, and ended the day with some bread, fruit, meats, cheeses, and wine we had purchased earlier that day.

As I type this, we’re about to settle in for a movie, but Jessie is already asleep.

I’m not sure what we’re going to do tomorrow, but I’m sure we’ll write about it then!
