Paris

I won’t bore you with the details, but we left Bordeaux and arrived at Paris at around noon. Our hotel room was not ready, so we left our bags at the front desk, and left for Montmartre. Having spent the better part of a month in Paris recently, I was playing tour guide.

It was a 2km walk from our Hotel, but the day was a lot cooler than others we’d had. I walked up the hill, and mom took the funicular. From the top, we enjoyed the beautiful view of the city below.

After waiting in line, we entered the Sacre Coeur, where there was mass in progress. After, we walked around back to one of my favorite places in the city: the Square de la Turlure. When we were here in January, the vines covered walkways were dormant, without leaves. I’m September, they were a vibrant green.

We walked around back, through the busy Place du Tertre, and on to a lunch spot: Le Poulbot. Mom and I tried our first Escargot, and I had an old reliable duck confit. I also had a house cocktail that I couldn’t figure out… grainy sugar, lime, and something that tastes like artificial grape flavor.

After lunch, we passed by the fabric markets and took the metro to Centre, to see the Notre Dame cathedral (from the outside, it being still under restoration)

We then walked across a pedestrian bridge to Île Saint-Louie, where we stopped for some obligatory Berthillon. Mom had raspberry, and I had a roast pineapple and basil ice cream.

After all of that walking, mom decided it was time to head back. We took the metro back to our hotel. Mom was done for the day, but I had a mission: to bring back some whiskey that I can’t find at home.

I continued on to two whiskey shops, grabbing a bottle of “Blantons straight from the barrel”. For dinner, I grabbed one last tacos to go and enjoyed a walk by the river, watching some swing dancers, and eventually heading back to the hotel to end the day.
